Pea vetch also known as pale-flower vetch is a perennial wild plant with pea-like fruits. The plants are very robust and can tolerate drought. Over the years, they develop an increasingly large root system from which the plant sprouts anew each spring. Older specimens climb up to 2 metres high. The unripe seeds taste pleasantly sweet and are surprisingly similar to young peas. The young shoots in spring can also be used similarly to pea sprouts. Like most legumes, the pea vetch (Vicia pisiformis) should only be consumed cooked.
