Across the world, more than 900 varieties belong to the sage species. Many of them are used for medicinal purposes, culinary herbs or even ornamental plants. The leafs of sage plants have high contents of essential oils and tannins.
The most popular sage variety in Germany is garden sage. Garden sage originated in the mediterranean region before it was introduced north of the Alps in the Middle Ages. Ever since, garden sage has been valued as a medicinal plant and spice.

This seed kit contains 7 aromatic sage varieties:

Sage (Salvia officinalis)
Sage is a traditional medicinal-, and kitchen herb descending from the mediteranean and tastes lovely with meat and fish. It also is the key ingredient for the famous ‘saltimbocca’ recipe.
Spanish Sage (Salvia lavandulifolia)
The flowers of the Spanish Sage resemble those of lavender. Hence, this variety is also referred to as ‘lavender-petalled’, though its flavour resembles that of rosemary. This variety is suitable to season and cure.
Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea)
Beautiful, splendid sage species with a strong, resinous smell, which has a slightly euphoric effect. Both on humans and cats.
Meadow Sage (Salvia pratensis)
Meadow sage is a lovely mild herb ideal for fish dishes. Its beautiful purply-blue flowers are edible and attract lots of bees and useful insects with their nectar.
Chia (Salvia hispanica)
Lushly blooming, Mexican, annual sage variety, whose seeds are known as superfood.
White Sage (Salvia apiana)
White sage is an American sage plant variety, which is essential for many Indian spiritual rituals.
Annual Clary Sage (Salvia viridis)
A very decorative species of sage that originates from the Mediterranean region and can be used beautifully as a gap filler in perennial beds. Loved by insects.
