The Venus Flytrap really is a fascinating plant and who hasn't stuck their finger into one of its trapping leaves as a child? When I was a child, I dared it in a gardening shop once and was caught by the gardener. He friendly reminded me that it weakens the plant when it closes its trapping leaves without getting nutrition. You don't need to "feed" your venus flytrap as a few insects per year are sufficient for it. However, if you do anyways, only feed it living and no dead insects that maximally have a third of the size of their blossoms. Only insects that move trigger the digestive reaction. The venus flytrap originates from the Pocosin Moors in North and South Carolina in the USA and only exists wildly there. Now, patience is demanded: It takes approx. 3-4 years until a fully grown, carnivorous plant has developed from the seeds.
